SHORT ANSWER

You play the nurse through one patient's shift and answer NGN-style questions when the story needs a decision. Your mentor explains every miss. The first shift is free.

What is RN Prep Pro?

It is NCLEX-RN practice built as a hospital game. Instead of a list of unrelated questions, you get shifts. Each shift follows one client with one problem that changes over the day: it gets worse, someone catches it, it is treated, and it improves or needs escalation. Shifts are grouped into units by topic, and the app gives you a new one each day.

What happens in a shift?

Every shift follows the same arc, so you always know where you are.

  • Clock in. Maria greets you, and the off-going nurse gives you handoff.
  • Read the chart. Notes, vitals, labs, medications, orders and intake and output unlock as the story reveals them. You can open the chart at any time.
  • First look. You meet the patient and family and set priorities.
  • Something changes. An alarm, a new symptom, a lab result. The vitals on screen move.
  • Act. You escalate, carry out orders, delegate and teach. Questions appear at each decision.
  • Did it work? You check the response and trend the numbers.
  • End of shift. You hand off to the next nurse, and Maria gives your debrief.

What question types are in a shift?

How does feedback work?

Right answers keep the story moving with a short word of praise. When you miss, the story still continues the right way, but Maria stops you for one line first, specific to what you missed. Every question has a full rationale, with a line for each option explaining why it is right or wrong.

At the end of the shift, the debrief shows your score and what you did well and need to work on in each of the six clinical judgment steps: recognize cues, analyze cues, prioritize hypotheses, generate solutions, take action and evaluate outcomes. Missed questions are saved so you can review them later.

How do the plan, streak and readiness work?

When you start, RN Prep Pro asks whether this is your first attempt or a retake, whether you trained outside the US, your exam date, your weak topics, how much time you have each day and when to remind you. It builds your study plan from that.

Each day brings a new shift, and finishing it keeps your streak. After three shifts, your readiness estimate unlocks. It shows how you are doing across the eight Client Needs areas of the NCLEX-RN test plan and the six clinical judgment steps, so you know where to focus. It is study guidance, not a prediction or guarantee of your exam result.

What does it cost, and what doesn't it do?

Your first shift is free, and you can play it before creating an account. After that, RN Prep Pro is $19 a month or $79 for lifetime access.

To be clear about the limits: RN Prep Pro is iPhone only. It does not include a full-length timed exam simulation, video lectures or tutoring, and it is not affiliated with NCSBN. Its questions are original practice items, not official NCLEX questions. Many students use it alongside a larger question bank.
